Hooker cuts 25 jobs

Hooker Furniture Corp. announced Monday that it is eliminating 25 jobs in operations, warehousing and administration at its wood furniture division, which is based in Martinsville.
The reduction equals 9.1 percent of Hooker's approximately 263 wood furniture division employees, according to a news release. Kim Shaver, vice president of marketing communications for the company, said the cuts were effective immediately.
Cutting the positions "was necessary because of the prolonged economic slump in the furniture industry and the resulting reduction in sales volume at the company," according to the release.
