Longaberger Basket/Vera Bradley/Jewelry Bingo to benefit the Martinsville Public Schools Endowment Fund, at Martinsville High School cafeteria. Doors will open at 6 p.m.; bingo will start at 7 p.m. Food will be available; a special bingo game with a grand prize $240 basket from Longaberger; a raffle for a Vera Bradley garment bag valued at $158; and a 50/50 raffle. Domestic Violence Awareness Month Kickoff: noon, at Courthouse Square, uptown Martinsville. Lunch will be served at the New College Institute from noon until 2 p.m.

The Patrick County Alzheimer's Group will sponsor an Alzheimer's Disease Memory Walk and fundraiser at Dehart Park in Stuart. Registration for the walk will start at 10 a.m.; the walk is at 11 a.m. There will be free lunch, blood pressure screenings, information about Alzheimer's, screening for Alzheimer's, a bake sale and door prizes. All proceeds will go toward the fight against the disease in Patrick and Henry counties and Stokes County, N.C. For more information, call Sally Smith at 694-7358.

Patrick Henry Saddle Club's last Fun Day Horse Show of the year. The gates will open at noon; show starts at 2 p.m. There will be food in the club house. The saddle club is five miles west of Bassett. Look for signs on Virginia 57 to the club.

Bake sale to benefit the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life: 8 a.m. until 1 p.m., at 234 Quail Oaks Road, Figsboro.

The 29th annual Uptown Martinsville Oktoberfest Arts and Crafts Festival and Street Carnival: 10 a.m. until 4 p.m., sponsored by the Martinsville-Henry County Christmas Parade Association and Lawrence Distributing Co.

Country breakfast and bake sale at Irisburg Ruritan Building: 7 to 10:30 a.m., sponsored by the Axton United Methodist Charge (Beckham, Carroll Memorial and Irisburg), with proceeds to go to the parsonage fund.

Pancake breakfast at Mount Olivet Ruritan Club: 7 to 10 a.m., with proceeds to go toward building improvements.

Bassett Historical Center will host the second Historical Symposium from 9:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the former J.D. Bassett High School auditorium. Tickets are $25 in advance; $30 at the door; $20 for students and senior citizens in advance; and $25 at the door. Martinsville Elks Lodge 1752 Money Draw Down with chances to win up to $3,000. Smith River Cleanup, sponsored by the Gateway Streetscape Foundation. Picking up trash on roadside continues. Emphasis will be on cleaning litter from areas in the Fieldale and Bassett areas near Smith River on Saturday. Volunteers should meet at the Fieldale Ball Park at 8 a.m. for the Smith River Clean-Up Kickoff.

Variety dance to music by Midnight Express: 7:30-10 p.m., American Legion Post 105, American Legion Road, Stuart.

Fall Festival and Flea Market: 8 a.m. until noon at Stanleytown United Methodist Church, with proceeds to benefit community projects.

The Pumpkin Patch, located in the grassy lot behind First Baptist Church of Martinsville, will be open from 12:30 until 4 p.m. today; 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. Mondays-Fridays; and Saturdays, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. The proceeds will benefit Grace Network.
