Jim Adams announced Friday he will seek a third term to the Blackberry District seat on the Henry County Board of Supervisors in the November election.

Adams, 54, who won a three-way race in 2001 to join the board, said he is seeking another term to continue serving residents.

“With the economy primarily the focus or everyone’s attention ... there will be obstacles ahead to meet the services required by our residents,” he said,

He vowed to continue keeping residents’ concerns “first and foremost on the decisions that must be made to meet those challenges.”

Adams cited on-going projects such as the Riverside Drive Housing Rehabilitation and work on economic development matters, and said he hopes to see those and other projects to fruition.

With the purchase of land to create two new industrial parks, he said he also has been part of the effort to lay a new foundation for future economic development.

“I want to see that groundwork come to fruition” as well as help existing businesses and businesses struggling in a tough economy, Adams said. “I want to be part of the county’s resurgence to economic prosperity.”

The county’s next budget cycle “will be a challenge,” he said. “But I’d like to be part of that in a positive way.”

Residents have been supportive during his time in office, “and I would like that support from residents to continue,” Adams said. “I have been honored to serve.”

Adams is a 1972 graduate of Patrick County High School who attended Patrick Henry Community College. He also has taken computer classes, management training, planning and zoning and process management courses, according to his resume.

He and his wife of more than 30 years, Teresa, are members of the Stella Christian Church. Adams has served in several capacities there, including elder, deacon, Sunday school teacher and a member of the mission committee. He is employed by Knauss Snack Foods.

Adams also has served on the Henry County Board of Zoning Appeals and the Henry County Schools Facilities Improvement Committee.

He is past president of the Sanville Elementary School Parent/Teacher Association; past president of the Sanville Ruritan Club, where he has been a member since 1979; and a member and past president of the Kiwanis Club of Bassett. He served with the Patrick-Henry Volunteer Fire Department, where he was secretary/treasurer; coached Little League baseball; and was with the Bassett Band Boosters, according to previous reports.

The Adams have two children: Nicole Adams, who is a counselor with the Roanoke County School Division, and Monica (and son-in-law Roger) Hatchett, an instructor with the Governor’s School at the Institute for Advanced Learning and Research in Danville; and two grandchildren.

Adams lives on Dalewood Drive in Bassett. He is a lifelong resident of Henry County and the son of Barney and Madeline Adams.

June 9 is the deadline for candidates to file to run in the November election.
