By BULLETIN STAFF REPORTS -
Patrick County Sheriff Dan Smith is asking the public for information to help solve an apparent breaking and entering, arson and theft that happened Saturday in Patrick Springs.
According to Smith, firefighters and sheriff’s deputies responded to a fire call around 8 a.m. Saturday at 1790 Anthony Drive. When firefighters arrived, the home was fully engulfed in flames, Smith said.
After firefighters extinguished the blaze, deputies found signs that the home had been broken into, Smith said. Several items were stolen, he said, including firearms and computer equipment.
He did not elaborate.
Smith did not have an estimate for damage to the home, but he said investigators suspect arson caused the fire. The house is still standing, but damage to its interior was substantial, Smith said.
He did not identify the home’s owners, but he said they were not home when the fire was reported, and they have been staying with relatives since then.
The Virginia State Police is assisting with the investigation, the sheriff added.
Further details were not available Monday.
Anyone with information related to the incident is asked to call Smith or Investigator Nick Pendleton at (276) 694-3161. Callers who wish to remain anonymous may call Crimestoppers at (276) 694-5000. |
