A man is being held with no bond following an early Wednesday shooting in Villa Heights, according to a release from the Henry County Sheriff’s Office.
Jessie Brian Morrison, 27, of 134 Dexter St., Martinsville, was charged Wednesday with unlawfully shooting a firearm within an occupied dwelling in connection with an alleged incident that began around 6:59 a.m., according to the release.
Then, the sheriff’s office received a report from a resident who had heard a gunshot and a woman screaming at 134 Dexter St., the release stated.
Deputies arriving at the scene found Alisha Nicole Vaughn, 22, of 219 Wilson St., Martinsville, had fled the Dexter Street home.
Vaughn told police she and a male friend, who lived at the home with his parents, got into an argument inside the home. She alleged that the man pointed a gun at her face, lowered the weapon in the direction of her leg and then fired the weapon at her.
Vaughn was not injured and fled the home, the release stated.
When she left, the man tried to strike her with a piece of wood but was unsuccessful, the release stated. Vaughn alleged she was kicked in the stomach, the release added.
The Henry County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team and other personnel cordoned off the immediate area and tried to negotiate with Morrison to surrender to authorities, according to the release.
Morrison’s parents were inside the home during the alleged incident, and officers were able to make contact with the parents and safely get them out.
Morrison allegedly remained inside until authorities and Morrison’s father were able to negotiate his surrender.
A 9 mm handgun was recovered. Investigators also found a bullet hole in the floor of the bedroom where the incident allegedly occurred, the release stated.
By about 9:36 a.m., all occupants of the home had been safely removed, according to the release.
Several other agencies helped with the incident, including the Henry County Department of Public Safety, Stone Ambulance Service and the Virginia State Police. |
