WILMINGTON, N.C. - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Wilmington District, has awarded a $1,294,362 contract to Singleton Enterprises, based in Luthersville, GA, to build a sewer system improvement project at Philpot Dam and Park.
Work could begin right after Labor Day and should take about nine months to complete, according to a corps news release.
The work includes complete installation of six wastewater pump stations and six wastewater force mains designed to direct wastewater flow from facility locations to the Henry County Public Service Authority sewer line.
The project will relieve inadequacies in the current system that have caused problems in lake facilities and improve services to the public, the release states. It will also open the way for development of a public marina site on the lake.
Philpott Lake has been without a public marina for nearly a decade, and such an opportunity is important for tourism in the tri-county area surrounding Philpott Lake, the release states. Philpott Lake is an important economic attraction in an area that has been hard hit by the decline of local manufacturing industries, it adds.
The contract was awarded under the HUBZone set aside. Though the prime contractor is home based in Georgia, local labor will be hired to accomplish much of the work. |
