A Ferrum man is being held in Patrick County on a charge of attempted murder, according to a news release from the Patrick County Sheriff’s Office.
Terry Allen Greer, 29, of 367 Deer Run Road, Ferrum, also was charged with use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, discharging a firearm in an occupied dwelling and reckless child endangerment in connection with an incident late Monday, according to Patrick County Sheriff Dan Smith.
At 11:53 p.m. Monday, deputies W.D. Hill and M.T. Rorrer responded to 120 Pine Lane in the Goblintown community, according to Smith and the release.
Officers were en route, responding “to a heated domestic disturbance,” when a second call reported that shots had been fired inside the home, Smith and the release said.
Greer and his girlfriend allegedly were involved in an argument that escalated, the release stated. The girlfriend summoned 911 for help, it said.
The girlfriend tried to wake her 7-year-old daughter to flee from the home, when a shot allegedly was fired from a handgun, it added.
The shot “barely missed the victim’s head,” Smith said.
The mother was listed as the victim in connection with the attempted murder charge, Smith said, and alleged the intent was to shoot her.
The 7-year-old was listed as the victim in the charge of reckless child endangerment, he added.
The woman and her child escaped without injury, Smith said. He declined further comment.
Greer is being held without bond in the Patrick County Jail.
