Del. Danny Marshall has earned voters’ support in Tuesday’s election.
Del. Marshall, a Republican from Danville, has represented the 14th District in the House since 2002. He has earned re-election for four key reasons:
First, if he is re-elected Tuesday, he will become the senior Republican in the House from Southside. That means he will have key positions on committees and he will “get to shape which way Virginia will go ... to be a business-friendly state,” as he put it recently. In other words, he will have the clout to make this area’s concerns a priority in Richmond.
Second, his election would help ensure that this area has representation with both political parties in the General Assembly. That brings balance and access to state leadership regardless of which party wins the governor’s job and the majority of seats in the House on Tuesday.
Third, Del. Marshall’s service on the Virginia Tobacco Indemnification and Community Revitalization Commission is critical to bringing jobs to the area, and his service on the New College Institute board is critical to the area’s educational and economic development.
And fourth, we believe Del. Marshall has been more attentive to his Henry County constituents since his 2007 victory over Adam Tomer, which was won by only about 600 votes out of more than 16,000 cast. He has been more visible here and more responsive to this end of the district since then.
These points show that Del. Marshall understands that job creation and a rebound of the area’s economy are the key issues for most area residents in this election, followed closely by education, including the New College Institute’s fate, and state budget shortfalls. On all of those issues, we believe Del. Marshall will represent his district well in the General Assembly.
We urge 14th District voters to cast their ballots for Del. Marshall. |
