| Government fix needed |
|
Tuesday, November 3, 2009
Look out. The sky is falling and a socialist conspiracy is behind it all. If we allow a change in the current health care insurance system, which everyone agrees is in need of change, then we are allowing our American way of life to crumble into socialism. (I’m sorry, but I have to take a minute here to laugh.)
That is one of the lies along with fear mongering that is being spread by people who want the system to remain the same. The “same” means allowing the current unregulated and private health care insurance providers to continue to reap huge profits by limiting those they want in the system and those they want to keep out of the system, such as the elderly and low-income families with children with pre-existing conditions. According to the National Advisory Committee on Rural Health and Human Services, nearly 82 percent of the rural counties are currently underinsured in this nation.
Come on, people. Government is going to have to be part of the fix. We have to allow a government option for people who cannot afford health care insurance. Additionally, we have to let go of the lie that if our government is involved in the issue, it has to be a bad thing.
It’s time to fix this problem once and for all and allow this nation to move to other things that need addressing such as the environment, education, housing and energy consumption.
