A Claudville mother and son are being held with no bond in the Patrick County Jail in connection with a quadruple slaying in Mount Airy, N.C.
Gregory Brandon Holt, 34, and his mother, Kathy Lee Young Barnette, 56, were arrested Tuesday on fugitive of justice warrants, according to Patrick County Sheriff Dan Smith.
The charges are related to the shooting deaths of four Hispanic men on Nov. 1 in the parking lot of a Mount Airy business. The town of 8,700 is in Surry County, which borders Patrick.
Smith said his office received information Tuesday from the Mount Airy Police Department that felony arrest warrants had been issued for Barnette and Holt.
The charges listed were accessory after the fact of murder, according to Smith, who said the warrants allege that the pair “assisted in the crime by driving the suspect away from the scene.”
Patrick County Sheriff’s Maj. Garry Brown and Investigator Darrell Rorrer located and arrested Holt and Barnette at about 3:45 p.m. Tuesday, Smith said.
Both are being held in the Patrick County Jail under no bond pending extradition to Surry County, N.C.
This marks the second time there was a Virginia connection to the case. Marcos Chavez Gonzalez of 146 S. Ridge Road, Mount Airy, who was charged with four counts of murder in connection with the slayings, was arrested the following day at the Super 8 motel in Henry County.
Police have said Gonzalez got a ride to the motel. He allegedly had been staying there under an assumed name after another person rented the room.
Henry County Sheriff Lane Perry said Wednesday he did not know the name of the person who rented the room.
