A Henry County grand jury indicted 46 people Monday on various charges.
Among them, Michael Aaron Napier, 23, of 445 Jessteen Lane, Bassett. Napier was indicted on one count each of common-law burglary, grand larceny and escape custody without force or violence.
The alleged incidents occurred Sept. 15 after police received a report that a while male had entered a home at 434 Jessteen Lane, Bassett.
When investigators arrived at the scene, a man allegedly jumped out of a window and fled, police said at the time.
Investigators found several items that were reported stolen near a home at 445 Jessteen Lane, which Napier shared with relatives, police have said.
A man also was found near Jessteen Lane and was taken into custody. He was taken to the magistrate’s office, police have said.
The warrant had been served and police were taking the man back to the police cruiser when he allegedly escaped custody, police have said.
He eluded police for two and a half hours before he was found in a Colonial Drive, Collinsville, home. He then was taken back into custody without incident, police said.
An indictment is not an indication of guilt. It is a grand jury’s determination that enough evidence exists to warrant a trial.
Grand jurors handed down a total of more than 115 indictments Monday, including:
• Carl Evans Hatton Jr., 45, 251 Waycross Drive, Fieldale, on one count of third-offense larceny (shoplifting), July 31.
• Joshua Leigh Eskew, 27, 701 Bloxsom Road, Callands, on one count of grand larceny (firearm), June 17.
• Richard Leonard Cline, 30, 2107 Gideon Church Road, Stokesdale, N.C., on one count of grand larceny, Aug. 5.
• Scott Franklin Vernon, 31, 835 Trent Hill Drive, Bassett, on one count of assault fire/rescue personnel, Aug. 20.
• Angel Cerise Wright, 24, 904 Second St., Martinsville, on one count of embezzlement (grand larceny), between Feb. 1 and Sept. 12.
• Corey Jermaine Hairston, 30, 7281 Morgan Ford Road, Axton, on one count of possession of a firearm by a felon convicted within 10 years, May 22.
• Christopher Dean Hubbard, 43, 74 Halifax Drive, Collinsville, on one count each of felonious violation of the Habitual Offender Act — second or subsequent offense and eluding police by endangerment with speed 20 mph or more over the limit, July 24.
• Brian Scott Goins, 27, 110 Creekway Trail, Ridgeway, on one count of grand larceny, Aug. 23.
• Chad Joseph Lockhart, 31, 39 Huckleberry Lane, Martinsville, on one count each of statutory burglary of a dwelling, June 3; and larceny of bank notes, checks or equivalent — third offense, June 3.
• Sherene Renay Carter, 50, 53 Meadow Green Road, Bassett, on one count of third-offense larceny (shoplifting), Aug. 8.
