Less than a week after winning the state championship, the accolades continue for Carlisle’s field hockey team.
Center mid-fielder Sallie Rives Seiy and goalie Jennifer Hall were named to the 12-person Division II all-state team on Wednesday. Seiy was also named the state’s player of the year.
Head coach Meade Seiy said the duo — both of whom are seniors — have had a “huge impact” on the program.
“They both are very talented young ladies. They are good leaders,” she said. “They have been some of the best players who have come through the program and the school. It’s been a pleasure to coach these girls, and all the girls on the team, really.”
Sallie Rives Seiy said she was “shocked and honored at the same time” upon learning of the postseason honors. She led the team in scoring this season with 29 goals and also added six assists. Her 93 career goals shattered the previous school record of 47. She also finished with 40 assists in her five-year career.
Sallie Rives Seiy credited the team’s cohesiveness for some of its success this season.
“I love my team. I love the camaraderie that we have,” she said. “I think that’s been a big part of how well we’ve done this season is how well we mesh together and how we’re all friends.”
While Sallie Rives Seiy made her mark by putting the ball in the back of the net, Hall earned recognition for her ability to prevent the opposition from scoring.
The three-year starter in goal finished the season with 61 saves and 12 shutouts. She never lost a home game while minding the net and gave up just five goals on the season.
In Saturday’s state title game, Hall made 18 saves in a 2-1 victory over Covenant School.
Hall was “really surprised” to learn that she’d been named to the all-state team, but one of her teammates was not.
“Jenn had a great season. Ever since she’s been the goalie, every season she’s improved and stopped everything that’s come to her,” said Sallie Rives Seiy. “She was always back there and ready, and once we got toward the end and we started playing tougher competition, she really showed what she can do.”
Hall said the season was definitely one to remember.
“I don’t think it could have really gone any better. We won everything we could accomplish,” she said. “We had three goals: to win conference and state, and to finish undefeated, and we did all three.”
