| If offered to keep him at city job |
 Scott Kizner |
Sunday, November 22, 2009
By DEBBIE HALL - Bulletin Staff Writer
Martinsville school Superintendent Scott Kizner said he would not take a pay raise if one is offered to keep him in Martinsville.
“I have ruled this out,” Kizner said Friday. “I would not accept a pay increase that was not offered to all other employees.”
He is one of three finalists for the school superintendent’s job in Montgomery County.
Less than two years ago when Kizner was one of three finalists for the superintendent’s job in Alexandria, the Martinsville School Board raised his pay by $25,000 to $143,000. Because he has a doctorate, he makes $147,000 a year.
School board chairman Jim Johnson said Thursday the board “will do everything we possibly can to keep him here.”
While Johnson did not rule out the possibility of another raise to entice Kizner to stay in Martinsville, Kizner did. He added that his decision to seek the post in Montgomery County has nothing to do with pay.
“This was a personal decision based on seeking new challenges,” he said. “It has nothing to do with salary or job satisfaction.”
The Montgomery County job’s salary was advertised at $150,000 a year, Kizner said.
Montgomery County school officials are expected to make a decision this week.
“If I don’t get the job, then I will do what I do every day — commit 100 percent to our students and community,” Kizner said.
He has been Martinsville’s school superintendent since January 2005. |
