Ninth District U.S. Rep. Rick Boucher traveled to Stuart on Monday to announce the creation of 135 new jobs and the expansion of a Patrick County business.
Results of Stuart, a call center based in Dania Beach, Fla., will hire 135 new employees as it expands into 6,000 square feet to fully occupy a shell building in Stuart, said Boucher, D-Abingdon.
State Sen. Roscoe Reynolds, D-Ridgeway; Barnie Day, a member of the Virginia Tobacco Indemnification and Community Revitalization Commission and a former delegate who helped with the project; and numerous county officials attended the announcement Monday at the company, which is located on Progress Drive in Rich Creek Corporate Park.
“So many people were involved with this project. I’m pleased to have played a small part in it,” Day said. With an economic development announcement such as the one at Results, “you know tobacco money has been well invested.”
Reynolds, also a member of the tobacco commission, thanked Day and Del. Ward Armstrong, D-Collinsville. Reynolds said Day and Armstrong, who was unable to attend the ribbon cutting, both “played an active part” when the tobacco commission was created.
“This is a great day for Patrick County,” he said shortly before presenting a $300,000 facsimile of a check to local officials to pay for the expansion.
There “is a whole lot to be proud of with this announcement,” Reynolds said, especially given the fact that more often, job losses are reported.
The announcement was “a rare moment given today’s challenging economic times,” said Crystal Harris, chairman of the Patrick County Board of Supervisors, as she thanked participants for the “teamwork and hard work” required to make the project a reality.
Results will be “the largest private sector employer in Patrick County with more than 300 employees,” including the new hires, Boucher said.
The company moved to Patrick County in 2006, after participating in Boucher’s Showcasing Southwest Virginia program, he said.
When announcing it would locate in Stuart, Results — which also has an operation in Galax — initially planned to create 65 jobs in 10,000 square feet of the 20,000-square-foot shell building, Boucher said.
“The response was so overwhelming” that Results decided to create 175 jobs, he said. In September 2007, the company announced it would create another 40 jobs and expand operating space by 4,000 square feet, he said.
The company works for two clients, electronics company LG and a major health care client, Boucher said.
The jobs “are excellent ... with wages exceeding the average for the industry, health insurance after 90 days of employment and paid vacation,” he added.
Specific wage information was not available Monday evening.
Officials did not say by what date the new employees will be hired, but applications are being accepted now. To apply or for more information, contact the Virginia Employment Commission in Martinsville at 632-3023. |
