By BULLETIN STAFF REPORTS -
Bassett High School senior Amber Nichols will perform today in the color guard of the Macy’s Great American Marching Band in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City.
Nichols’ group will be the first performance, scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. She left Saturday and spent the week learning the routine.
The band of about 200 high-schoolers includes musicians and colorguard members from all 50 states, including 21 others from Virginia.
The students were selected after they submitted written applications and audition videos, according to the Macy’s band’s Web site.
Nichols is a member of the Bassett High School color guard. She is the daughter of Jennifer and Todd Nichols of Martinsville and the granddaughter of Betty and Sheldon Nichols of Moneta and Mary Davis of Collinsville and the late Arthur Davis. |
