A local man faces four counts of using a communications device to solicit children for sexual activities, according to a news release from the Southern Virginia Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.

According to the release, John Presley of 295 Rosewood Ave., which is in the Collinsville District of Henry County, was arrested Wednesday and charged with the four counts.

Investigators in Bedford County, where the task force is based, began an undercover investigation of a suspect in May, the release said. According to the release, the suspect made contact with what he thought was a juvenile female. In June, a search warrant was executed and evidence was seized for forensic analysis, the release said.

Charges against the suspect were pending the results of the forensic exam, the release said.

In October, investigators alleged, the suspect again was active online. Between October and November, five law enforcement agencies in Virginia were known to be conducting investigations of the suspect “where he (allegedly) initiated contact with what he thought were juvenile females,” according to the release.

A second search warrant was obtained Wednesday, the release said, and new evidence was seized. Investigators allege that the suspect was using the Internet from his residence, the release said.

Presley was being held in the Bedford Adult Detention Facility, it said.

The “multi-jurisdictional investigation” included the Bedford County and Henry County sheriff’s offices, Herndon Police Department and Virginia State Police, the release said. The investigation is continuing, it said.

Presley’s age was not included in the release.
