Both the Martinsville-Henry County Christmas Parade and the Bassett Christmas Parade, scheduled for today, have been canceled.
Both will be held next Saturday. The Martinsville-Henry County parade has been moved to 6 p.m. that night in uptown. The Bassett parade has been reset to 2 p.m. that afternoon in Bassett.
Jeannie Lawson, an organizer of the Martinsville-Henry County event, said the parade was canceled because the National Weather Service is predicting that rain will continue to fall until 8 p.m. today.
“We are not taking the risk of people coming out or not coming out. We want to give the best parade we can,” Lawson said.
