| In triple slaying in Collinsville |
 Carl DeShawn Turner |
Monday, December 7, 2009
By AMANDA BUCK - Bulletin Staff Writer
The trial of a man charged in a triple slaying has been postponed until March.
Carl DeShawn Turner, 18, whose last address was 935 Blankenship Road, Martinsville, has been alleged to be the triggerman in the June 23, 2008, slayings of three Hispanic men in a Collinsville mobile home. He has been indicted on first-degree murder charges in the deaths of Martin Cardecas and Rafael Torres Sanchez. Turner also has been indicted on the lesser charge of felony murder in the deaths of Cardecas, Sanchez and Gabriel Rogel-Mirafuentes.
Henry County Commonwealth’s Attorney Bob Bushnell has said a person can be charged under two theories in a single victim’s death but can be convicted under only one theory.
Turner appeared Monday morning in Henry County Circuit Court, where his two-day trial was scheduled to begin. His attorney, Perry Harrold, made a motion to continue the trial due to a death in Harrold’s family.
Bushnell did not object, and Judge David V. Williams set the trial for March 4 and 5.
