New and returning members of the Henry County Board of Supervisors and school board will be sworn into office Tuesday.
Circuit Court Clerk Vickie Helmstutler, Registrar Liz Stone and the chairman of the Electoral Board will conduct the swearing-in ceremony for those elected Nov. 3 during the 6 p.m. supervisors meeting.
Supervisors to be sworn in include Jim Adams of the Blackberry District, Milton Kendall of the Iriswood District and Joe Bryant of the Collinsville District. Kendall and Bryant will be new to the board.
School board-elect members include Curtis Millner of the Iriswood District, Rudy Law of the Blackberry District and Kathy Rogers of the Collinsville District. They all have been serving on the school board.
In other matters at that meeting, supervisors will:
• Present the 2009 Jack Dalton Community Service Award.
The annual award was created in 2001 to honor the county resident who best exemplifies the standards for community service set by Dalton, a former supervisor.
• Hold a public hearing required for the proposed change in a voting precinct as requested by the Henry County Electoral Board.
If approved, the precinct at the former Ridgeway Elementary School will be moved to First Baptist Church of Ridgeway because the former school building no longer is heated.
The move must be approved by the supervisors and the U.S. Department of Justice.
• Hold a public hearing on a rezoning application from William W. Lewis on property at 986 Field Ave. in the Horsepasture District.
Lewis has requested the rezoning of about 1.2 acres from Suburban Residential District S-R to Neighborhood Commercial District B-2 to use the existing structure as a bed and breakfast inn and antique, gift and coffee shop.
After the hearing, the Planning Commission will make a recommendation on the rezoning request.
• Hold a public hearing on a rezoning application from Michael E. Lavinder for property adjacent to 2473 Daniels Creek Road in the Collinsville District.
Lavinder asked that about 0.423 of an acre be rezoned from Suburban Residential District S-R to Office and Professional District B-3 to construct a new dental office building.
The Planning Commission will issue a recommendation on the rezoning after the hearing.
• Hear a report on general highway matters from Lisa Hughes, resident engineer for the Virginia Department of Transportation.
• Consider the addition and abandonment of parts of Virginia 650 (Irisburg Road).
VDOT asked supervisors to consider adopting a resolution to abandon 0.89 of a mile along Virginia 650 (Irisburg Road) and add 0.88 of a mile along the same road into the secondary road system.
County staff recommended approval of the resolution. |
