Magna Vista’s boys basketball team opened Piedmont District play Tuesday with a close win over Tunstall, 51-48.
Magna Vista never led by more than 7 points, and the Warriors survived a rally from the Trojans when Tunstall tied the game with less than a minute remaining. Magna Vista went up by two, but a Tunstall 3-pointer snatched the lead with about 20 seconds left in regulation.
Anthony Hairston then made a shot from the paint to put Magna Vista back on top by a point. Tunstall missed, and Latrell Wells tipped the rebound to M.J. Pilson, who hit 1 of 2 free throws with 9 seconds left. Tunstall then went for but missed a 3-pointer, and Wells rebounded and was fouled. He hit 1 of his 2 with 2 seconds remaining, and Wells tipped an inbound pass to end the game.
Hairston and Pilson led the Warriors with 14 points each, and Wells had five points, nine rebounds and four blocks.
Magna Vista (2-4 overall, 1-0 PD) will travel to Bassett on Friday. Tunstall dropped to 2-7 overall, 0-2 PD. |
