BREAKING NEWS: Stanley Furniture to lay off 150
Forty temporary workers also will lose jobs

Tuesday, January 19, 2010

By DEBBIE HALL - Bulletin Staff Writer

Stanley Furniture will lay off 150 hourly workers within the next two months.

Another 40 temporary workers also will lose their jobs, according to Glenn Prillaman, president and COO of the company.

Prillaman said the economy sparked the work force reduction that only affects employees at the plant in Stanleytown.

"Our strategy has not changed. We are still committed to domestic manufacturing," Prillaman said. He added there are no plans to move production overseas.

After the layoffs are completed, Prillaman said more than 750 workers will remain locally. More than 700, he said, will remain in Stanleytown.

Fewer than 50 employees are at the company's warehouse/distribution site in Martinsville, he added.

See this site and Wednesday's Martinsville Bulletin for more details.
