| Bassett man faces attempted murder counts |

Two indictments alleging attempted first-degree murder were among the 117 handed up by grand jurors in Henry County on Tuesday.
Robert Lee Hood Jr., 54, 298 Out-A-Way Drive, Bassett, was indicted on two counts each attempted first-degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and one count maliciously shoot at an occupied vehicle, Sept. 9.
Henry County Sheriff’s St. Curtis Spence said Walter Martin and Robert Hairston Jr. were visiting Hood’s home on Sept. 9 when an argument ensued. Spence said reports indicated that the two men got in a vehicle to leave the home when shots were fired from a rifle.
The back of the vehicle allegedly was struck by gunfire, he said. There were no injuries.
An indictment is not an indication of guilt. It is a grand jury’s determination that enough evidence exists to hold a trial.
Also among the 62 people indicted Tuesday were:

• John Taylor Motley, 23, 105 Smith County Drive, Bassett, one count each felony third-offense drive while intoxicated and driving a vehicle while intoxicated and license revoked for two or more prior drive while intoxicated offenses, Sept. 23.
• Teddy Dale Rorrer, 32, 4296 Elamsville Road, Stuart, attempt to escape custody without force or violence, Oct. 20.
