Youth football camp set at BHS

Bassett High School will host the Youth Football Camp to be held July 27-30.

Interested athletes will be able to learn the fundamentals of the game of football at no cost.

The camp is open to the public and sponsored by the BHS Touchdown Club.

Athletes ages 13-18-years old will take the field from 9-11:30 a.m. each day, and those aged 6-12-years old will do so at 1-3 p.m.

MVHS to hold basketball camp

Magna Vista High School will host a basketball camp free of cost for elementary and middle school athletes Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. each day.

The camp, which will be staffed by MVHS coaches and players, welcomes participants from all over.

Volleyball camp slated at MHS

A Martinsville High School jayvee volleyball clinic is slated for Tuesday and Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the MHS gym.

All girls planning to play jayvee volleyball for MHS should attend and all prospective players are welcome.

Call MHS volleyball coach Robin Humlan at 650-8695 with questions.

'Stangs to hold baseball camp

The Martinsville Mustangs will host a baseball camp July 26-27 at Hooker Field.

The camp, which runs from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. both days, is instructed by current Mustangs coaches and players. All camp participants receive a camp t-shirt, four general admission seats for a future Mustangs home game, and will be recognized on the field before a Mustangs home game in late July. The cost is $40.

Tryouts for cheerleading in tackle football leagues, hosted by Martinsville Parks and Recreation, will be held at the National Guard Armory July 26-30.

Monday's tryout will be from 4-6 p.m. and the other four tryouts will be from 5-7 p.m.

All participants must be between the ages of 11 and 13 and be enrolled in 6th, 7th or 8th grade as of Oct. 1, 2010.

Free MVHS football camp set

Magna Vista High School will be holding a football camp from 6-8 p.m. Monday and Wednesday.

The camp is for athletes ages 8-and older and is free and open to the public.

The camp will be run by the Warriors' football staff and players.

MVHS will also be handing out equipment for jayvee and varsity football players from 9:30-11 a.m. Monday-Wednesday.

Charity golf wraps up at Beaver Hills

The annual Wendy's Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption Charity Golf Tournament was held recently at Beaver Hills Golf Course.

Two events were held at the tourney, a morning and evening event, and the morning group was won by the team of John Trent, Donn Shumate and Dean Shumate with a score of 17-under par.

The evening group was won by the team of Sammy Eanes, Dana Eanes, Billy Shelton and Eddie Sechrist who shot a 16-under par.
