Sonya M. Vanhook and Derrick L. Hairston, both of Martinsville, were married July 31 at Galilean House of Worship. Dr. Michael Penn performed the ceremony.
The bride is the daughter of Larry and Cindy Vanhook of Martinsville. She is the granddaughter of Charlie and Verlie Hunt of Gretna and the late Robert and Susan Vanhook. She is the mother of TaMiya A. Davis, Ashley M. Davis and Laylah J. Hairston of the home.
The bridegroom is the son of Wilson and Debra Hairston of Petersburg. He is the grandson of Ruby Hagwood of Bassett and the late Jesse Hagwood, and Corine Hairston of Martinsville and the late Wilson Hairston. He is the father of Chanda D. Moore of Louisville, Ky., Maisah S. Hairston of Petersburg, Priya R. Hairston of Greensboro, N.C., and Laylah J. Hairston of the home.
The bride was escorted by her father. She wore a gown with sequins and lace and a chapel-length train. She carried a bouquet of pink lilies, peach roses and ivory carnations.
Tonya L. Vanhook of Charlotte, N.C., sister of the bride, was the maid of honor. She wore a pink satin gown with sheer overlay and carried a bouquet of peach roses.
Jebarco Hairston of Atlanta, brother of the bridegroom, was the best man.
A reception was held at the Dutch Inn.
The bride, a 1995 graduate of Martinsville High School, is an LPN at Golden Living Center.
The bridegroom, a 1991 graduate of Fort Campbell High School, is a supervisor for Norfolk and Southern Railroad.
Prior to the wedding, the couple was honored July 28 at Golden Living Center with a shower hosted by patio level staff.
