Breaking News: Alan Koger taken in MLS draft
Former Magna Vista soccer player goes in third round
Thursday, January 13, 2011
Alan Koger, a former standout soccer player for Magna Vista High School, was drafted by the New England Revolution today in the 2011 MLS SuperDraft.
Koger was taken with the last pick in the third and final round - or 54th overall.
A Spencer native, Koger starred for William & Mary's soccer team. As a senior this fall, he led the team with 10 goals and 22 points from his forward position. He was later named first-team all-Colonial Athletic Association and second-team all-South Atlantic Region.
A 2005 graduate of Magna Vista, Koger was a dominant soccer player in the Piedmont District, twice earning PD player of the year. He was also a two-time all-state honoree and the Region IV player of the year as a junior.
He is the son of Elbert and Jantje Koger of Spencer.
