BREAKING NEWS: Bassett man charged with attempted murder
Monday, August 8, 2011
A Bassett man was charged Monday with attempted murder in connection with a shooting incident, according to a news release from the Henry County Sheriff's Office.
Officers responded to a call of a shooting at 10:47 a.m. at 3274 Columbus Drive in Bassett, the release said. When they arrived, Brandon Kirby told officers that he and another man were arguing, and the other man retrieved a shotgun from his home, according to the release.
The man allegedly "pointed the weapon at Kirby, who was standing on the porch of his residence, and fired once," the release said.
Kirby was not hit, it said, but pellets from the shotgun allegedly hit Kirby's residence, which was occupied at the time, according to the release.
Lavest Michael Whisenton, 23, of 3250 Columbus Drive, was charged with attempted murder, use of a firearm in the commission of attempted murder, shooting at an occupied dwelling and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, the release said. He was jailed without bond, it added.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the Henry County Sheriff's Office at 638-8751 or the Crimestoppers Program at 63-CRIME (632-7463).
The Crimestoppers Program offers rewards up to $1,000 for information related to crime. The nature of the crime and the substance of the information determine the amount of reward paid.
