BREAKING NEWS: Hospital administrator resigns
Thursday, August 18, 2011
Memorial Hospital of Martinsville & Henry County (MHMHC) announced today that Skip Philips has resigned his position as CEO to become Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of DeKalb Regional Health System in Decatur, Georgia. According to Tom Weiss, president of LifePoint Hospitals' Continental Division, of which MHMHC is a part, Philips plans to remain at MHMHC through September to help support the hospital and community through the transition to an interim CEO.
"An aggressive national search for a permanent CEO is already underway and I am confident that we will find the right person to lead the hospital in the future," Weiss said. "We are sad to see Skip go, but understand and support his decision to return home to Georgia, where, in his new position, he will be within an hour of every member of his family."
Philips assumed the role of CEO at Memorial Hospital of Martinsville & Henry County in October 2010. During his 11 months with the organization, he played a key role in the hospital's successful completion of a Joint Commission Survey; the opening of a telemetry unit on an all-private floor; the expansion of the hospital's Board of Directors to support community engagement; and the recruitment of a new chief operating officer and chief nursing officer, both of whom have a patient-centered focus and deep commitment to making the community healthier.
Memorial Hospital has more than 850 employees and 72 physicians on the active medical staff.
LifePoint Hospitals operates 52 hospital campuses in 17 states. The company specializes in operating community hospitals in non-urban markets where the hospital is the sole community provider in most of the communities it serves.
