Shirley Diane Hairston and Maurice Lamont Breedlove, both of Axton, were married on Oct. 29 at Bethel United Way of the Cross Church in Danville. Bishop John Campbell performed the ceremony.
The bride is the daughter of Robert and Elsie Waller of Martinsville and the granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Lester Martin.
The bridegroom is the son of Howard Breedlove and the late Dorothy Breedlove.
The bride was escorted by her father. She wore a satin three-piece gown with a veil and train. She carried a bouquet of ivory satin roses with ribbon.
Maids of honor were Shan'Tyia Hairston, daughter of the wedding couple, of Raleigh, N.C.; and sisters of the bride Pam Hairston of Axton and Brenda Hodge of Martinsville. Matron of honor was Elizabeth Devins of Axton, sister of the bride.
Bridesmaids were nieces of the bride Jasmine Hairston, Alma Martin and Nicole Millner, all of Axton; Retha Taylor of Bassett; and Debra Beal of Martinsville.
The matron of honor wore a purplish-black gown, and the other honor attendants wore black gowns. Their bouquets were of silver and black roses with satin ribbon.
Junior bridesmaid was Rita Hairston, niece of the bride and daughter of Pam and Lawerance Hairston of Martinsville.
Flower girls were the wedding couple's granddaughter, Skylar Hairston, daughter of Shan'Tyia Hairston; and nieces of the bride Ki Yana Hairston, daughter of Jasmine Hairston, and Adriana Martin, daughter of DeMario and Alma Martin.
Best man was Lawrence Breedlove of Reidsville, N.C., brother of the bridegroom.
Groomsmen were brothers of the bridegroom John Breedlove and Harry Breedlove of Danville and Samuel Breedlove of Axton; brother-in-law of the bride Garrett Devins of Axton; nephews of the bridegroom Quan Breedlove of Greensboro, N.C., and La Conda Breedlove of Roanoke; James Scaife of Hampton; and Michael Christian of Danville.
Ring bearer was Ny'Quis Bradley, god-son of the bride and son of Janet Bradley of Martinsville.
A program of wedding music was performed by musician Chris Carter of Axton and vocalists Ny'ree Koger of Martinsville; Chrishelle Burgess, Wendy Fitzgerald, Jasmine Fitzgerald and JaMarcus Fitzgerald, all of Danville; and Jody Campbell of Reidsville.
A reception was held in the church reception hall.
The couple took a honeymoon in Tennessee.
They live in Axton.
The bride is a 1987 graduate of Laurel Park High School. She is a manager at Family Dollar.
The bridegroom is a 1984 graduate of Laurel Park High School and a 1989 graduate of James Madison University. He is self-employed.
Prior to the wedding, the couple was honored on the following occasions: Sept. 24, a bridal shower at the Bassett home of Frances Newman, hosted by her and Retha Taylor; and Oct. 28, a rehearsal dinner at Bethel Way Church, hosted by Shelia Clark, and a bride's night out at Applebee's, hosted by Jasmine Hairston.
