Area roundup: Benefit golf tournament set for Saturday

The third annual Walker Shank Memorial Golf Tournament will tee off at 2 p.m. Saturday at Forest Park Country Club.

The overall champions of the four-man captain’s choice tournament will receive a set of four VIP weekend passes to Rooster Walk 4, set for May 25-27. The set is valued at $600. Prizes also will be awarded to the net champions as well as closest-to-the-pin and longest drive winners.

Golfers will receive a pulled pork dinner as well as a post-tourney party with a live band in the FPCC ballroom.

Proceeds from the tournament will benefit the Penn-Shank Memorial Scholarship Fund at Martinsville High School.

The entry fee is $60 per person or $220 per team. Entry forms can be found at www.roosterwalk.com or at area pro shops. For more information, email Johnny Buck at roosterwalk@gmail.com.

Sons of Amvets golf

tournament to be held

The Sons of Amvets Golf Tournament will be held May 19 at Beaver Hills Golf Course in Martinsville.

Team entries are $160, and individual entries cost $40. The format for the tournament is captain’s choice, and first and second place awards will be given.

The tournament will begin at 1 p.m. with a shotgun start.

Food and soft drinks will be served, and hole sponsorship costs $50.

Carlisle’s boys tennis team defeated Hargrave Military Academy 8-1 Tuesday at Chatmoss.

The Chiefs swept all six singles matches and went 2-1 in doubles play.

Carlisle is now 2-1 in Virginia Independent Conference play and 2-1 overall.
