Week of the Young Child
Sunday, April 15, 2012
Smart Beginnings Martinsville Henry County (MHC) invites all citizens in Martinsville and Henry County to come together for young children during the national Week of the Young Child from April 22–28. As part of this annual recognition across the country, Smart Beginnings is honoring young children and all those who make a difference in children’s lives.
All young children need and deserve high-quality early learning experiences that will prepare them for success in school and in life. The Week of the Young Child is a time for our community to recognize that the early years are learning years for all young children.
Smart Beginnings MHC is teaming up with Healthy Families of the West Piedmont to kick off Week of the Young Child with a Stroller Walk on April 19 from 1-3 pm at Jack Dalton Park. This event is just one of many such activities being held around the state to raise awareness about the early learning and developmental needs of young children. We encourage families with young children to check out more local events at www.smartbeginningsmhc.org
The Week of the Young Child is also a time to recognize the importance of the teachers and community partners and elected officials who advance early childhood initiatives to benefit young children. Please take the time to thank the childcare providers, the business leaders, the educators, the health care providers and other stakeholders for their dedication to our youngest citizens.
Smart Beginnings MHC is a collaborative partnership of public and private agencies, businesses and individuals working together to improve the quality and availability of early childhood care and education for children from birth until kindergarten.
Today’s young children are tomorrow’s work force, decision-makers and leaders. They need and deserve the very best foundation we can give them. The quality of their lives and the future economic prosperity of Martinsville and Henry County depend on it.
Please join with us during the Week of the Young Child as we reflect upon how our community may better meet the needs of all young children and their families.
