Martinsville’s girls soccer team defeated Patrick County 2-1 in overtime Monday at Patrick County.
Martinsville’s Sarah Russell scored from 25 yards out. With eight minutes left in the first half, the Lady Cougars got a penalty kick, which was scored by Courtney Campbell.
The teams remained tied at 1-1 at the half, and no one scored in the second half. Emily Martin scored in overtime for the Lady Bulldogs to avoid another tie.
On Friday, Martinsville tied Magna Vista 0-0 but outshot the Warriors 9-4. Bulldog Kelsy Conner had four saves while Magna Vista’s Emilia Isa had nine saves that day.
On Monday, Martinsville (3-4-2) played without four starters and outshot Patrick County 15-6.
PCHS will get a rematch at 7 p.m. Thursday at Martinsville.

Bassett’s softball team routed Patrick Henry of Roanoke 10-1 Monday.
Offensively, Whitney Bowers had three hits for the Lady Bengals. Two of them were doubles, and she had 3 RBIs.
Taylor Mabry and Miya Hairston each had a home run and two hits. Mabry had 3 RBIs.
Mabry also pitched all seven innings, struck out 12 and allowed four hits.
Bassett (13-1) next will play at 5 p.m. today at Tunstall.

Carlisle defeated previously undefeated No. 7 Miller School 8-1 Monday at Chatmoss.
The Chiefs swept the singles and only dropped the third doubles match.
Carlisle (3-2) will return to action at 4:30 p.m. today against Liberty Christian Academy at home.

Bassett’s junior varsity girls softball team beat Patrick Henry of Roanoke 16-6 Monday at home.
Ciara Mariano got the win for the Lady Bengals, pitching five innings and striking out five batters.
The offense was led by Keri Stegall, who went 2-for-3 with an inside-the-park home run. She had four RBIs. Deanna Hanson went 3-for-3 and had a triple and three RBIs; Mariano went 2-for-3 with a triple and three RBIs; and Kelsey Maples went 2-for-2 and had an inside-the-park home run and two RBIs.
BHS will host Tunstall at 5 p.m. today at home.
