Brenda Moore and Marcus Barksdale, both of Martinsville, were married on March 17 at Refuge Temple Ministries. Bishop Lorenzo Hall performed the ceremony.
The bride is the daughter of Brenda Moore of Martinsville and the late Joe Louis James. She is the granddaughter of Mattie B. Zieglar of Ridgeway and the late Tina P. Moore.
The bridegroom is the son of the late Charles and Lorene Barksdale. He is the grandson of Mary Scruggs of Washington, DC, Sylvia Barksdale of Gretna and the late Herbert H. Barksdale.
The bride was escorted by her brother, Barry W. Moore of Martinsville. She wore a strapless gown with silver beading and sequins and a court-length train. She also wore a silver tiara and an elbow-length veil, and she carried a ribbon-tied bouquet of ivory roses, baby breath, calla lilies and black diamond accents.
Sister-in-law of the bride Tuwanda Moore of Martinsville was the matron of honor. She wore a silver strapless taffeta dress and carried a ribbon-tied bouquet of ivory roses and calla lilies.
Bridesmaids were sister of the bride Lisa Moore, Paula Morris, Megan Hines, Brenell Thomas and cousin of the bride Beverly Carter, all of Martinsville; Robin Reid of Greensboro, N.C.; and Jessica Gravely of Rocky Mount, N.C. Their dresses and bouquets were similar to those of the matron of honor.
Kamyrah Gravely, great-niece of the bride and daughter of Marquis Gravely and Keiera Moore of Martinsville, was the flower girl.
Best man was Quinten Berger of Alabama.
Groomsmen were brother of the bride Bernard Moore, cousins of the bride James Millner Jr., Travis Moore and Tony Carter, all of Martinsville; cousin of the bride Kenneth Hairston of Patrick County; Marquis Taylor of Gretna; and Xavier Redd of Greensboro.
Ushers were Marquis Gravely, Derrick Hairston, nephew of the bride Dakota Moore, and nieces of the bride Keiera Moore and Latanya Spencer, all of Martinsville.
Ian Stockton, son of Terrica Hairston and Shaun Stockton of Martinsville, was the ring bearer.
Harold Giles of Greensboro played the organ, and Arnold Bullock of Martinsville and Crystal Halback of South Carolina sang.
A reception was held at the Horsepasture Fire Department.
The couple took a honeymoon in Massanutten.
They live in Martinsville.
The bride is a graduate of Magna Vista High School and Old Dominion University.
The bridegroom is a graduate of Averett University.
Prior to the wedding, the couple was honored on the following occasions: Feb. 4, a bridal shower hosted by Tuwanda Moore; Feb. 18, a shower and party hosted by Phyllis Page; March 2, a bachelorette party hosted by Tuwanda Moore; and March 10, a bachelor party hosted by James Millner Jr.
