Wreck kills N.C. man

A 68-year-old North Carolina man died Sunday in a single-vehicle accident on U.S. 220 South in Ridgeway, according to the Virginia State Police.
John Daniel Wilson of Madison, N.C., was pronounced dead at the scene of the wreck about two-tenths of a mile south of Mica Road, according to state police Sgt. Robert Carpentieri.
The wreck happened around 12:30 p.m. Sunday as Wilson was driving a 2003 Chevrolet S10 pickup southbound on U.S. 220, the release said. The incident began when the pickup ran off the road into a concrete ditch, it said.
“The vehicle then crossed over into the northbound lanes of traffic, striking a guardrail then vaulting over it and down an embankment,” the release said.
Wilson was wearing a seat belt, the release said.
Further details were not available Sunday, according to Carpentieri.
