Local man dies after cycle crash

A motorcycle crash in Franklin County on Saturday claimed the life of a Martinsville man.
Dennis Keith Eggleston, 56, of 44 Woodlawn Ave., was pronounced dead at Franklin Memorial Hospital in Rocky Mount, where he was taken after the approximately 9 a.m. accident, the Virginia State Police reported.
The accident happened on Route 619 just east of Route 707 in Franklin County, the state police reported.
According to a news release, a 2008 Kawasaki ZR1000B motorcycle was traveling westbound when it collided with a 2000 Isuzu Rodeo that was traveling eastbound and attempting to make a left turn.
Eggleston was wearing a helmet when the crash occurred, according to the release.
State police spokesman Sgt. Robert Carpentieri said no information on the driver of the Rodeo was available Saturday and the crash still is under investigation.
