Below is the earlier story:
Police are treating the case of a body found Tuesday inside a Martinsville apartment as a homicide, according to Police Capt. Eddie Cassady.
Authorities were summoned to the scene, and at 7:56 a.m. Tuesday, they found the body of a black male in the kitchen area of Apartment 1 at 106 Moss St., Cassady said.
“We are treating this as a homicide, and we are working this as a homicide,” he said.
The man was not identified Tuesday, and Cassady said the cause of death had not been determined.
The man did not live in the apartment where he was found, according to a city police news release.
The city’s Geographical Information System (GIS) shows the Moss Street apartments are owned by Shannon Shanell Adams, also of Martinsville. Adams could not be reached for comment Tuesday.
Slightly before noon Tuesday, police were executing a search warrant and collecting evidence at the scene.
Some investigators wore protective coverings over their shoes while others retrieved various items from their vehicles to process the scene.
Additional investigators canvassed the neighborhood, “talking to as many people as we can,” Cassady said.
He said there are three or four apartments in the gray-colored house. Peeling paint could be seen on its exterior.
The body was taken to the Medical Examiner’s Office in Roanoke for an autopsy, Cassady said.
Anyone with information about the case should call the Martinsville Police Department at 638-8751 or Crime Stoppers at 63CRIME (632-7463).
