Skateboard accident kills man

A man from Canada died Friday after the skateboard he was riding collided with a pickup in Patrick County, according to a news release from the Virginia State Police.
Maxime Benoit, 26 , of Grandby, Quebec, Canada, was pronounced dead at the scene, the release from Sgt. Robert Carpentieri stated.
The accident occurred around 12:30 p.m. Friday on Route 614 (Squirrel Spur Road) three miles south of Route 638 (Bell Spur Road) in Patrick County, the release stated. The investigation revealed that a pedestrian was riding a skateboard southbound on Route 614 when it traveled into the path of a 2001 Ford F450 pickup traveling northbound and operated by Galen Roger Huff, 66, of Floyd, the release added.
No charges were filed, Carpentieri said. Benoit was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, the release stated.
The investigation is continuing, Carpentieri said.
