Public's help sought on fatality
Thursday, August 2, 2012
Virginia State Police is asking for the public’s help in locating a white or light-colored sedan that may have been involved in a fatal hit and run accident in Patrick County.
Brittney Oshay Fretwell, 30, of Martinsville, died shortly after the incident Tuesday, according to a release from Virginia State Police Sgt. Robert J. Carpentieri.
A female passenger was riding in a 2001 Ford Explorer that was traveling on U.S. 58, just west of Virginia 694 in Patrick County, around 9:45 p.m. Tuesday when the passenger allegedly jumped out of the vehicle and landed in the right lane of U.S. 58, according to Carpentieri.
The passenger then was struck by a vehicle that allegedly fled the scene, the trooper said.
The victim was taken to Pioneer Hospital in Stuart, where she died a short time later, he added.
As a result of the accident, police are seeking a white or light-colored sedan with square headlights and which may have front-end or under carriage damage, Carpentieri said.
Anyone with any information about the vehicle or who was in the area at the time of the crash and may have information about the incident is asked to call the Virginia State Police at 1-800-542-5959.
