Monday, September 3, 2012
A Virginia State Police trooper was injured in a single-car accident Sunday night in Henry County.
Trooper Kevin D. Mabe, 35, of Stuart, was taken to Memorial Hospital in Martinsville for non-life threatening injuries sustained in the accident, according to a news release from Sgt. Robert Carpentieri of the Virginia State Police.
The accident occurred shortly before 7 p.m. Sunday on U.S. 58 just west of the Mayo River Bridge in Henry County, the release stated.
The investigation showed that a 2010 Ford police cruiser was traveling westbound on U.S. 58 when it hydroplaned on the wet road, causing the cruiser to run off the right side of the road and strike an embankment before it overturned, the release stated.
Mabe, a nine-year veteran of the State Police, was driving the vehicle, the release stated. It added that he was wearing a safety belt at the time.
The investigation into the accident continues, the release added.
