Stanley Workers can seek benefits

Employees of Stanley Furniture Co. Inc. and others employed there through Ameristaff Employment & Staffing Solutions may apply for Trade Act benefits during a special session slated for 9:30 a.m. Friday at the Virginia Employment Commission, 233 W. Commonwealth Boulevard, Martinsville.
In April, Stanley announced it would consolidate its showroom and corporate offices in High Point, N.C., in a move that is expected to be completed early next year.
Workers affected by the consolidation were certified for Trade Readjustment Allowances provided under the Trade Act and must apply immediately, according to a notice from the Virginia Employment Commission (VEC).
Their Social Security card, or proof of Social Security number, is required when filing for Trade Act services, which may include unemployment benefits; help finding a new job — including allowances for training, job searches and relocating for a new job in another area; Alternative Trade Adjustment Assistance for workers aged 50 and over; and a Heath Care Tax Credit that may provide help with monthly health insurance premiums, according to a notice from the VEC.
To be eligible for Trade Readjustment Allowances, individuals must have been totally or partially separated from their jobs at Stanley Furniture Co. Inc. on or after May 6, 2012, and before June 6, 2014; and meet certain other wage and employment qualifications, the VEC stated.
