Woods charge added
Wednesday, September 19, 2012
A man facing murder and other charges in connection with an incident last April — in which one man was shot before a car accident left four people dead — was indicted Monday on an additional charge.
Lamont Anthony Woods, 21, of 164 Niblett Drive, Martinsville, was indicted Monday on a charge of maliciously shooting at an occupied motor vehicle on April 28.
Woods was indicted in May on charges of first-degree murder, use of a firearm in the commission of first-degree murder and endangering the life of a child named Lazerious Woods, according to a news release at the time.
Henry County Commonwealth’s Attorney Bob Bushnell said Tuesday the shooting at an occupied vehicle indictment was an “add-on” charge.
The indictments are in connection with the shooting of Lamar Shonta Ward, 19, on April 28 at 164 Niblett Drive. Ward was one of four people who left that address after shots allegedly were fired at a vehicle. Police have said the vehicle apparently was headed to Memorial Hospital when it ran off Figsboro Road and hit a tree.
Killed in the wreck were Ward’s sister, Manesha Ward, 24; Takea Turner, 21; and Lazerious Woods, 6 months. Police have said Lazerious was the son of Turner and Lamont Woods.
Lamont Woods remains in the Henry County jail.
An indictment is not an indication of guilt. It is a grand jury’s determination that enough evidence exists to hold a trial.
