Job fair today
Wednesday, September 19, 2012
People planning to attend today’s job fair at the National Guard Armory should get there early, said Amanda Witt, president of Martinsville-Henry County Chamber of Commerce.
The fair will run from 9 a.m. to noon. Witt said arriving as early as 8 a.m. wouldn’t be a bad idea because “the sooner you get in, the sooner you get through and hopefully get a job in the end” or at least an interview, she said.
There will be more than 1,000 jobs available at the fair, and just more than 25 employers are expected, including a few manufacturers and others in the customer service, distribution and health care fields, according to Witt.
Job seekers should come dressed to impress, have résumés in hand and leave children at home so that applicants can focus on talking to the employers, Witt said.
Employers will be interviewing on the spot or setting up interviews for a later date, she added.
Some employers may have job seekers fill out applications. Witt said that everyone should be prepared for that and be ready for a possible interview.
