Woman dies in wreck

A Stanleytown woman died in a single-vehicle accident early Thursday, according to the Virginia State Police.
Melissa Cassell, 45, of Stanleytown, was operating a 1998 Chevrolet 1500 pickup early Thursday on Virginia 677 near Virginia 678 in Henry County, Virginia State Police Sgt. Robert Carpentieri reported. According to Bassett Funeral Service, she lived in Bassett.
Around 2:20 a.m., the truck ran off the right side of the road and struck a tree, according to the trooper.
The driver of the truck was not wearing a safety belt at the time and was pronounced dead at the scene, he added.
The investigation of the incident is continuing.
