BREAKING NEWS: Goode correctly certified for ballot
Attorney general reviewed petitions
Friday, September 21, 2012
The State Board of Election was correct in certifying Virgil Goode as a presidential candidate on the November ballot, according to Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli.
After completing an investigation of Goode’s petitions as the Constitution Party presidential candidate, an email from Cuccinelli stated that “while there may have been certain irregularities,” nothing the attorney general examined would prevent Goode from being certified for the Virginia ballot in the Nov. 6 presidential election.
“It is not uncommon to find some irregularities in candidate petitions that contain thousands of signatures,” the email stated. “Regardless of any such irregularities, the candidate had enough valid signatures to qualify for the ballot. Therefore, the attorney general has concluded that the State Board of Elections was correct in certifying Goode for inclusion in the Virginia presidential ballot.”
Goode, of Rocky Mount, formerly served in the House of Representatives and state Senate.
