Draper promoted to fire marshal
Pete Draper has been promoted to fire marshal of Henry County.
Thursday, October 4, 2012
James “Pete” Draper has been promoted to the position of fire marshal for Henry County.
Draper was named to the post previously held by Rodney Howell, who recently was promoted to the position of public safety director.
“Pete has been a vital part of the fire marshal’s office since 1997,” said Howell. “He has the experience and the right skills for the position.”
The fire marshal has primary responsibility for investigating fires and enforcing the fire prevention code.
Draper currently is the deputy fire marshal and fire training coordinator in the county, a position he has held since 1997. Before coming to work for Henry County, Draper worked as the fire marshal for Bassett-Walker Inc.
“It’s uncharted waters for me in a lot of areas,” he said Wednesday. “It will put me in areas that I’m not really familiar with, but with Rodney and everyone’s help I think I’ll do well.”
Draper said the biggest change for him will be more involvement in office work and investigations.
“I’ve done a lot of (investigations), but I’ll be more involved in leading anything than I was before.”
Draper also is a volunteer firefighter with Collinsville Fire Department.
“My faith in God and my family have gotten me where I’m at, and I’m proud of that. I’ll still be dealing with the same people, and we have a great bunch of volunteers in Henry County. I’m looking forward to working with them,” he said.
Draper will earn $51,800 annually.
