Less government better
Tuesday, October 9, 2012
Ideology is what drives a society. In the 1960s, entrepreneurs created jobs, jobs, jobs. Just look in the old phone book at all the small businesses in our area. Henry County was the rich county.
Then came the Great Society that had to reach down and lift up those who were just not living up to some standard demanded by Congress. The latest in the news is New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg eliminating large sugary drinks at fast-food restaurants. Can the government hire enough food police to make us all healthy, wealthy and wise?
My ideology is: The least government interference, the better. Let us as individuals fight the fat war.
Then the banks were threatened with regulations to provide loans to those with slow credit under (President Jimmy) Carter. Legislators Chris Dodd and Barney Frank helped let the money fly to put everyone in a home. No one seemed to care that many would never pay. Hey, it was sharing-the-wealth ideology.
Then we bought the old auto clunkers more billions down the sewer. Then we saved the UAW (United Auto Workers) pension fund for a mere $25 billion plus loss.
Government just cannot run our lives. The postal service is in trouble again. Shovel ready jobs are just a fairy tale. We need a reality checkup.
