Voter deadline Monday
Wednesday, October 10, 2012
By ASHLEY JACKSON - Bulletin Staff Writer
Monday is the deadline to register to vote in Virginia, according to Elizabeth Stone, Henry County registrar.
As of Monday, there were 36,093 registered voters in the county. That is compared to 35,916 people registered for the 2011 state election, she said.
People who still want to register to vote in the Nov. 6 election must come in person to fill out the registration form because it is too late to mail in the form at this point, Stone said.
The county registrar’s office is open from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at the county administration building.
The city registrar’s office is open from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday in Room 122 in the city municipal building, according to Cynthia Barbour, city registrar.
As of Tuesday, there were 9,153 registered voters in the city, compared with 9,145 for the 2011 election, Barbour said.
The Patrick County registrar’s office is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at the Patrick County Administration Building, according to Susan Taylor, Patrick County registrar. She did not have registration numbers readily available Tuesday.
Taylor noted that the deadline to request an absentee ballot by mail is Oct. 30, and voters have until Nov. 3 to cast an absentee ballot in person.
When coming to vote absentee, people should bring a form of identification with them, Taylor added.
