Carlisle field hockey wins in OT

The Carlisle School field hockey team defeated Chatham Hall 1-0 in overtime Thursday in Chatham thanks to a game-winning goal from Virginia Barry.
Barry scored about 30 seconds before the end of the overtime period off an assist from Lori Yeaman. Yeaman set up the goal with a hard strike across the circle that found Barry, who crushed it into the back of the cage.
Keeper Virginia Zentmeyer recorded 10 saves in net to earn another shutout. The Chiefs are now 8-5 overall and 4-1 in the Bue Ridge Conference.
The Chiefs will return to the field Wednesday for a game at North Cross.

SOCCER
PHCC to host PYSL night at complex
The Piedmont Youth Soccer League along with the Patrick Henry Community College soccer teams are sponsoring a PHCC/PYSL night at the Smith River Sports Complex today in conjuction with the Patriots’ games against USC-Lancaster.
The men kickoff the night’s action at 4 p.m., with the women following at approximately 6 p.m. Those who wear their PYSL jerseys will be admitted for free.

Martinsville 6
Laurel Park Middle School defeated Martinsville Middle School 14-6 Thursday to improve to 4-1 on the season.
Chris Scales and Jalen Millner each got into the end zone for the Lancers, and Austin Perkins also threw a touchdown for Laurel Park.
LPMS will travel to play Danville Middle School next Thursday at 4:30 p.m. for the middle school championship.
