GSI Commerce identified as firm hiring 900

GSI Commerce Fulfillment Center is the company hiring 900 seasonal employees for its Martinsville warehouse, according to The Associated Press.
Information on the jobs was provided during a job fair held in September at the National Guard Armory on Commonwealth Boulevard. However, the company’s name was not released at that time.
GSI is a division of the online auction website eBay. It packs and ships items for e-commerce retailers.
According to Kelly Services, which is handling the recruiting, the jobs will pay between $8 and $10.50 an hour.
The impact of the jobs “could be tremendous,” said Martinsville Interim City Manager Leon Towarnicki.
While they are temporary jobs, they are “nothing to take lightly,” he said, because so many area residents are out of work and will need money to pay their upcoming holiday expenses.
“It would be good if they were permanent jobs,” though, he mused.
