Editorial: Watching the future take shape at NCI
Sunday, November 4, 2012
The New College Institute is wasting no time in constructing a new building to offer new programs in uptown Martinsville.
On Thursday, the institute broke ground for the three-story, 50,000-square-foot building on the Baldwin Block in uptown. Construction could begin in March.
The building is being designed to house programs in advanced manufacturing, health care and entrepreneurism. So far, $13.5 million has been pledged toward the $15 million cost.
The speed with which this project is moving is admirable. It reflects the urgency in the community about the New College’s potential to have a profound impact on the future of Martinsville and Henry County.
Rather than being out of sight and out of mind, NCI will be in sight and in mind. We all will see work begin on the Baldwin Block and, in that prominent location, we will see the future take shape. We are looking forward to that.
