Editorial: Thank you, veterans
Sunday, November 11, 2012
Today is Veterans Day, when we thank those who have served their country to protect our freedoms.
We mark this day with ceremonies and events. Henry County’s observance will be at 2 p.m. today at Bassett High School, a program at Fairystone State Park will begin at 3 and ICF International will have a commemoration at 11 a.m. Monday, in addition to special breakfasts and other activities being held throughout the area. In addition, ICF’s Patriot Centre building will host the Disabled American Veterans Mobile Service office from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday to assist disabled veterans and retirees.
We hope area residents will take part in these events and activities to show their support for the men and women who have served in the military. These people have given their time, and in some cases they have risked their lives, to protect this nation and the principles on which it was founded.
This nation has been divided over many things recently, but it must be united in support of those who serve America. They stepped up when needed, and they deserve all the respect and help we can give.
We join the rest of the community in saluting our veterans and thanking them for their service.
